How to reach Catania

By plane

The Catania international airport is connected with several flights a day with the main italian international airports and various airports in Europe (see link 1 and link 2 ). A list of low-cost flights to Catania from Italy and from abroad is available.

From the airport to the town

At the airport, you can take a taxi (minimum price: about 20 Euro). It is convenient to choose a "radio taxi" and in any case an official one.

Bus 457 (Alibus) is much cheaper (the base ticket costs 0,80 Euro and is valid for 90 minutes) and reaches the center of Catania and the railway station. The bus stop is just to the left of the airport exit, and you can buy tickets at a small cabin closeby or directly on the bus (ask the driver, it will cost a bit more; remember however that you can buy tickets on bus only for the Alibus and not for the other public services).

Here you can download a sketcy map of the town. Hotels are located in the center of the town, along via Etnea. The bus stop of Piazza Università is located at one end of via Etnea. Buses 1-4 and 429 drive along via Etnea. Please ceck this page on how to reach hotels and the conference site and this page for maps and further information.

By train

Click here for the Italian railways timetables. The trip to Catania takes about 18-20 hours from the northern Italian borderline and about 10 hours from Rome. It is an experience. From the Central Railway Station to the hotel zone you can take a taxi (minimum price: 10 Euro). By bus, take line 1-4, 429 or 432 to Via Etnea.
